DubKraft: Fresh release + Interview + Mix CD

"The Bucharest music scene starts with the great 20th-century composer George Enescu, but it quickly branches out to D.J.’s like Alien Pimp and rollicking Gypsy bands like Taraf de Haiduks."
New York Times
We can forgive the slightly embarrassing cracked English title, as Romania’s first dubstep release contains some impressively tidy productions. (...) Alien Pimp’s ‘Robots & Cellos’ has a gnarlier, junglist-sounding bassline and cellos playing a distinctly Eastern European-sounding melody line. It’s crunchy, high-tech stuff, and a reminder that Romania isn’t all headscarves and horse-carts.
MIXMAG (Joe Muggs)
“As the dubstep scene become even harder to break into with the dominance of the big league DJ¹s only pushing their own material, here East European dub slinger Alien Pimp and his Dubkraft imprint release two dark and eerie gems ready to challenge the like of Tempa, Tectonic and Planet Mu. Seek out the new breed and purchase.” Mark Gurney -
ATM Magazine/ 2nd Drop Records
“The Bucharest, Romania-based DubKraft is a tribute to how international dubstep is getting. The artists here are British, but Alien Pimp aka label boss Silviu adds a chunky, dark dancefloor punch to ‘Dungeon Master’. The real gem, though is ‘Whoppa’ with what sounds like some electric monkeys chattering and a superbly rolling and skipping old-school 2-step vibe.”
Mixmag – Joe Muggs
I've really tried to enjoy dubstep[...] Sad to say, the collections I've heard so far (Box of Dub, Techtonic Plates, as well as the Burial album) have left me cold. Just when I was about to give up on it, I came across a Romanian label called Dubkraft and damn if they're not doing it right, which is interesting since most (all?) of the dubstep music I've heard comes from the UK.
Jason Gross - Perfect Sound Forever
“Dungeon Master is the perfect crossover of trip hop blunted vibez and heavy weight bass. Ideal for bass meditation! Whoppa is a bit too crazy for my personnal tastes…”
BunZer0 - SubFM
“Dungeon Master (Alien Pimp Remix) is quite a minimal, eerie and scary tune that you could easily find in a horror film. The sub carries you sliding to a very low frequency. This track reminds me of watching the x-files. A nice simple drum structure which sounds like it's been recorded live.”
Deapoh – Bare Dubs Records
If you didn’t already know…Romania is producing some hot sounds at the moment. You only need to look to Bucharest based label, DubKraft Records, and their “Worldwide Babylon” 12? series for proof.
Earz Magazine
The Aliens have landed, only not from space this time, from Romania, in some cases my comments could be scene as obscene, but then you may not have heard of the Alien Pimp!
Hailing from Bucharest Romania, this alien must be moving at the speed of sound because his reputation is growing fast across the world, and thats no surprise when you get a taste of this guys tracks, producing a large array of sounds, from dubstep to wierd drum & bass, pushing the boundaries with every new track, a warning sign should be hung from this mans record bag.

EXTENDED BIO:

Born in 1976 and present in the musical life of Romania first as a radio DJ and journalist since the early age of 14 (no error, its for real!), Alien Pimp is the less known founder of one of the most acclaimed electronic music act in Romania in the 90s, NSK, in 1996. After a first gig, he left the group for a solo career, starting 2 projects: Alien Pimp and Sonic Tonic.
In the early years he approached almost all styles of electronic dance music, from gabber to garage, from big beat to dnb.
Fast enough, in 1998, Alien Pimp won first prize at ASSOS Music New Talent Festival, a national competition for the electronic dance music producers and since then he played at all the major festivals in the country, and countless club parties. In the last couple of years things cleared out for him: as Alien Pimp hes dj-ing and producing drumnbass, and under the Sonic Tonic alias he produces downtempo music with influences from all styles of electronica.
As well, since 2004 he has founded two new projects: one downtempo act, WeAreNotSure, together with the sensational young producer Silent Strike and a very gifted female vocal from Norway, Gunhill, and a liquid drumnbass act, Groovenauts, with Black Science Project from UK. As a producer, he has more than 10 tracks and remixes released on several Romanian compilations, and he produced the unanimously acclaimed Bucharest Chills & Thrills compilation in 2004.
As well, in 2004 he started building SoundKraft Records, a label, booking & management company focused on promoting East-european dnb & breakbeat artists. SKR had its first release in december 2005, a cd compilation called Eastern Sound Architects Vol. 1: East-European Drum'n'Bass, that proves the sun raises from the East.
In 2002 and 2004 he was member of the jury at the Eastern-European Discoveries national contest organised by Radio France Internationale for the electronic dance music talents.
As a Dj, Alien Pimp started to play for free in 2000 at the Web Club, which was for half a decade the biggest suporter of the electronic dance music in Bucharest. After a few unexpectedly successful parties, he was offered a residency there that he has never abandoned untill early 2005. He began with a very eclectic selection of styles, but now hes focused on dnb. Since then, he has constantly played in Bucharest (had 2 more residencies) and across Romania, but as well at the Sziget Festival in Budapest 2003, Germany, Austria (in Flex baby!), Hungary, Bulgaria, and in the Republic of Moldavia. He had the chance to spin on the same stage with the likes of Ganja Kru, Goldie, DJ Lee, Tech Itch, SKC, Concord Dawn, Big Bud, Matrix, Rawfull, Spor, Jade, BSE, Identity, Killa Kella, Shroombab, Palotai... or even did back to back with Impulse, Pyro or saintGein.
Recently he started to play together with MC Coppa, tearing down each dancefloor they hit together.
Apart from vinyl, he uses loads of hi-quality demos or local cd releases which never had the chance to meet a vinyl press.
In parallel with the dj/producer career, he pursued the journalist career, writing for allmost all publications focused on music (and not only).
Since early 2005, his dnb label, SoundKraft Records, developed two separate branches: artist management/booking and event promotion. Some of the best talents in East-European breakbeat and drumnbass work with SoundKraft and as well over 50 events in 2005 have the SoundKraft signature on.
His dubstep label, DubKraft Records, topped charts on juno, chemical records, beatport and digital-tunes and his first release, Robots & Cellos was a bestseller for almost 1 year after being released.
And the Kraft family keeps growing...
